About Me
My name is Diego Garzia. I was born in Rome 30 years ago. I hold a PhD in ‘Comparative and European Politics’ from the University of Siena. Previously, I studied at the Universities of Rome “Sapienza” (BA, MSc), Leiden (MA), and Oxford (Visiting Doctoral Student).
I work (mainly) in the fields of political psychology and electoral behavior. The focus of my actual research is on the personalization of politics in Western democracies. In particular, I am interested in the role played by personality – of both voters and politicians – in orienting political attitudes (party identification) and voting behavior. My recent works have been accepted for publication in peer-reviewed journals such as Journal of Political Marketing, Political Psychology, Revista Española de Investigaciones Sociológica, Rivista Italiana di Scienza Politica, The Leadership Quarterly, and World Political Science Review.
During my studies, I have heard that people would do a much better job as voters if they had all the relevant information. To this purpose is devoted the Cabina-Elettorale.it project that I led in 2009 as part of the Europe-wide VoteMatch network. The major results of this collective effort are presented in the volume ‘Voting Advice Applications in Europe’ (2010) which I edited together with Lorella Cedroni.
